Případy 1. oddělení nejsou vycucané z prstu scenáristy s příliš bohatou fantazií a zálibou v dramatických honičkách, ale vychází ze skutečné praxe. Za scénářem nového seriálu ČT totiž stojí šéf pražské mordparty Josef Mareš a novinář Jan Malinda.
V roce 1998 řešili čeští policisté nejvíce vražd, 313. Trojnásobek předlistopadové éry. V roce 2013 to bylo 188 případů. Policie České republiky dosahuje u této nejzávažnější trestné činnosti objasněnosti nad 93 %.
