Hlavní postavou tohoto kriminálního dramatu je Charlie Crews. Ten byl právě po dvanácti letech propuštěn z vězení, kde byl za čin, který nespáchal.
Přestože díky obvinění přišel o přátele, rodinu a svou práci, díky knize Cesta Zenu, kterou jednou našel na vězeňském dvoře, se mu podařilo se svým osudem smířit a bojovat.
Nyní se vrací ke své staré práci detektiva a je rozhodnut získat svůj život zpět.
